Advancing circular logistics solutions in cities
Horizon Europe · HORIZON-MISS-2027-04-CIT-CCRI-04
Funds pilots of reusable packaging, modular loading units and reverse logistics to make urban freight and e-commerce delivery more circular.
This call is announced but not open yet. Dates and conditions can still change.
What is this call about?
The call funds innovation actions that develop and pilot circular logistics solutions in cities, such as reusable packaging, modular loading units and reverse logistics. Projects work with cities, logistics operators and e-commerce actors.
What does this call fund?
Background
E-commerce growth has increased packaging waste, freight inefficiency and emissions. Urban logistics still relies largely on disposable packaging and fragmented transport.
Proposals should address all of the following
- Design modular, reusable and recyclable packaging and loading units that reduce single-use packaging in urban freight.
- Develop and test digital tools for tracking and optimising loading units, using technologies such as the Internet of Things, edge computing, AI and data spaces.
- Co-design solutions with local authorities, logistics operators, retailers and citizens, including parcel lockers and micro-hubs for returns and collection of used items.
- Demonstrate solutions in real-world pilots in at least two urban environments, each covering at least two types of goods, including reverse logistics and return and reuse schemes.
- Assess environmental, social and economic impacts and propose policy recommendations and guidelines for cities.
Expected outcomes
Faster transition to circular freight transport, wider use of reusable packaging and loading units, better integration of reverse logistics, lower material use and carbon footprint, and stronger cooperation among urban stakeholders. Activities are expected to reach TRL 7 to 8 by the end of the project.
