What is this call about?

The topic funds a single coordination and support action providing advisory support and a network for preventing and countering radicalisation, extremism, hate speech and polarisation. Research activities should meaningfully involve a wide range of stakeholders and societal actors, particularly civil society organisations.

What does this call fund?

Scope

The topic funds one coordination and support action that builds advisory support and a network for research and practice against radicalisation, extremism, hate speech and polarisation. Work should combine an understanding of how online hate speech, radicalisation and extremism circulate with strategies to prevent and counter them, and should promote the values of the Treaty on European Union.

What projects should do

  • Examine the root causes of radicalisation, extremism, hate and polarisation, including socio-economic factors.
  • Work with end users such as civil society organisations and practitioners to develop solutions suited to their contexts.
  • Proposals are encouraged to identify related EU-funded projects under Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe and complementary programmes and to explore collaboration with them.
  • Apply a gender-sensitive and intersectional approach and draw on initiatives such as the EU Knowledge Hub on Prevention of Radicalisation.
  • Link with the envisaged European Centre for Democratic Resilience and use its stakeholder platform.

Expected outcomes

  • Political, societal and educational stakeholders and researchers better understand models and pathways for countering extremism, radicalisation, hate speech and polarisation.
  • Public authorities, law enforcement, local authorities, NGOs and community actors engage more in applying such solutions.
  • EU institutions, national policymakers and judicial bodies gain a stronger evidence base for decisions.
  • Better understanding of online hate ecosystems and of the role of traditional media in shaping opinion and polarisation.
