What is this call about?
The topic funds a single coordination and support action to build and run a European virtual platform that helps cultural and creative sectors adopt ethical AI. The platform is meant to facilitate networking and collaboration among the cultural and creative sectors, researchers, technology developers, AI ethicists, other industries and start-ups.
What does this call fund?
Scope
The topic funds one coordination and support action to set up a permanent European virtual support platform that helps the cultural and creative sectors and industries (CCSI) adopt artificial intelligence in an ethical way. It should coordinate and build on results of Horizon Europe Cluster 2 projects and other EU initiatives on AI and culture.
Possible functions of the platform
- Frameworks, standards, best practices and toolkits for integrating ethical AI into CCSI value chains.
- Cross-sector collaboration between CCSI professionals, AI technology companies and start-ups, linking with initiatives such as the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage, AI Factories, European Digital Innovation Hubs and the data space for cultural heritage.
- A copyright infrastructure supporting the use and licensing of copyright-protected content for AI.
- Education and training frameworks and training on effective AI use.
- Encouraging CCSI and SMEs to use federated data sources, digital infrastructures and computing resources to build their own AI products.
- A roadmap of emerging challenges and policy dialogue on culture's contribution to fair AI.
Sustainability
The platform should run on a robust business model that keeps it accessible to organisations of all sizes and not dominated by special interest groups. The project should pilot the platform and have it fully operational by the end of the project, and should liaise with the EIT KIC Culture and Creativity and build on related Horizon Europe projects.
Expected outcomes
The CCSI gain access to a European AI support platform offering shared services, expertise, training and tools, and enabling AI applications that respect EU values, promote cultural diversity and address biases.
