Scope

The topic focuses on improving existing decision support systems for disaster crises by integrating emerging technologies, in particular trustworthy AI that ensures transparency, accountability and ethical decision-making. Systems should process large volumes of data, use advanced data analysis and predictive modelling, and help authorities and responders act quickly, from early warning to early action.

What projects should do

• Develop transparent, explainable and secure AI-driven tools that are inclusive and gender-sensitive.
• Involve test centres in trialling and validating emerging technologies.
• Improve collaboration between local authorities, emergency services and other actors, for example by integrating drones, emergency vehicles, smart traffic systems and law enforcement.
• Make systems usable and accessible for diverse users, align with EU guidelines on AI ethics, and use data from European research infrastructures, Copernicus and Destination Earth where applicable.
• Conduct a stakeholder or market analysis and prepare a roadmap for uptake.

Expected outcomes

Projects contribute to some or all of: decision support systems using near real-time ground data; systems that improve civil preparedness and response times; and advanced data analysis tools for authorities and first responders. Activities are expected to reach TRL 7-8 by the end of the project.
