Scope
This Horizon Innovation Action addresses alternative positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) methods that provide fallback options when satellite navigation signals are lost or degraded, for aviation including unmanned aircraft. It also covers e-conspicuity to improve pilot awareness and reduce collision risk at lower altitudes in U-space airspace.
Expected outcomes
- Solutions that integrate 5G networks and advanced signal processing, such as AI-enhanced processing, to improve PNT accuracy as a backup to satellite navigation in contested environments, with post-quantum cryptographic measures.
- Solutions that use the Internet of Things and other sensing techniques for redundant and resilient navigation, especially in low-altitude airspace.
- Mobile communication performance requirements for e-conspicuity and minimum mobile network availability to support collision avoidance between drones and manned aircraft.
- Analysis of policy and regulatory aspects such as privacy, spectrum management, international cooperation and harmonisation.
Technology readiness
Activities are expected to reach TRL 6-7 by the end of the project.
