What is this call about?

What does this call fund?

Scope

The topic funds the second phase of the co-funded European Partnership for Pandemic Preparedness. It adds activities, and where relevant partners, to the existing grant agreement of the partnership funded under topic HORIZON-HLTH-2024-DISEASE-12-01 (BE READY NOW). The proposal is submitted by the coordinator of that consortium and is presented mainly as revisions to the existing grant agreement.

Activities

  • Coordinate and jointly fund transnational research, combined with integrative in-house activities, building on the strategic research and innovation agenda from the first phase.
  • Cover the full range of preparedness research, from basic and pre-clinical to clinical, public health, social sciences and implementation research, with a One Health approach.
  • Consolidate and develop an ever-warm clinical research network of observational and interventional studies that can respond rapidly to public health emergencies, in close coordination with the Clinical Trial Coordination Mechanism.
  • Widen the engagement of countries not yet involved and attract private and philanthropic actors and innovators; the participation of start-ups and SMEs is encouraged.
  • Build a health research data ecosystem aligned with the European Health Data Space and the European Open Science Cloud, supporting FAIR research data.

Expected outcomes

  • An operational EU network of clinical research sites able to run large multi-country studies and switch to emergency response.
  • Stronger coordination among EU and national bodies, researchers, policymakers and funders, closing research gaps.
  • Research results used for evidence-based preparedness policies, and a stronger international role for the EU.
