GRAPPA open call for innovative projects valorising agri-food biomass side-streams

The call provides lump-sum grants to SMEs, alone or in small consortia, for innovation projects that valorise agri-food biomass and side-streams. Projects should lead to new processes, products or services at TRL 6 or above.

Scope

The call targets innovative SMEs developing solutions that make more use of agri-food biomass side-streams through new processes, services and products, contributing to more sustainable and resilient agri-food ecosystems. It focuses especially on developing, adopting and commercialising upcycled ingredients for food and non-food uses, as well as products, business processes and technologies, including digital ones.

Target groups

• SMEs in agri-food production and/or processing.
• SMEs in other sectors, such as cosmetics or nutraceuticals, that valorise biomass, by-products or side-streams from the agri-food sector, or their own side-streams for the agri-food sector.
• SMEs offering solutions or technology for valorising agri-food biomass, by-products or side-streams.

Project requirements

• The project must lead to a new process, product or service, or a combination of these.
• Projects must have a minimum Technology Readiness Level of 6.
• Grants must be matched by at least 15% private financial contribution (debt or own resources), with proof.

Evaluation

Proposals pass an eligibility check and are then assessed by 3 independent evaluators within two months of each cut-off. The call text was amended on 16 July 2026, including a two-stage evaluation with a pre-selection stage for cut-off 2 and an adapted application form for that cut-off. Successful applicants enter a sub-grant agreement phase of about one month.
