Improve the capacity to monitor and reduce air pollution from agriculture

The topic funds research projects that improve farm-level monitoring of agricultural air pollutants and develop practices to cut them. Consortia must follow a multi-actor approach with farmers, researchers, advisors and businesses.

Scope

The topic targets air pollutants from agriculture other than greenhouse gases. It funds better monitoring, reporting and verification at farm level and practical ways for farmers to reduce emissions.

Activities

• Assess and improve the accuracy, cost and ease of use of monitoring, reporting and verification methods and tools, including AI and IoT, through analysis, field experiments and demonstration.
• Consolidate and extend knowledge on emission factors and mitigation potential, contributing to the EMEP/EEA emission inventory guidebook.
• Develop practices and technologies for manure management, livestock feeding and grazing, and fertiliser and pesticide use across farming systems including cattle, poultry and pigs.
• Train farmers, advisors and other actors to use improved tools and reduction measures.

Cooperation

Projects should include a dedicated task and resources to cooperate with other projects under this topic and related Horizon Europe projects. Data and methods should follow FAIR principles.

Expected outcomes

Improved farm-level monitoring, reduced impacts on health and biodiversity, stronger evidence for EU air pollution policy, and better knowledge and technologies for farmers. Activities are expected to reach TRL 4-5 by the end of the project.
