Funding to expand EU production capacity for key electronic components used in defence products and to secure their supply.
What is this call about?
The topic funds industrial reinforcement actions that expand EU production of key electronic components for defence products. Actions should increase capacity, cut lead times and strengthen security of supply.
What does this call fund?
Scope
The topic funds industrial reinforcement actions that increase EU production capacity for key electronic components which are bottlenecks for defence products across land, air, naval and underwater domains, such as unmanned and counter-unmanned systems, missile systems, precision-guided munitions, communication and command systems, and C4ISR including electronic warfare.
Targeted production capacity
- guidance electronics, such as flight controllers, inertial measurement units and sensor-fusion electronics
- propulsion electronics, such as speed controllers, motor control units and battery management electronics
- RF and laser modules and related components
- multispectral cameras and thermal or electro-optical sensing modules
- avionics, printed circuit boards and IC substrates
- lithium-ion polymer batteries, power electronics and critical semiconductor building blocks
What proposals must include
Proposals must show the criticality of the targeted production capacity, justify the urgency, and set out an industrial reinforcement plan with a risk-management approach covering safety, supply chain and obsolescence, maintainability and industrialisation.
Optional protection work package
Applicants may add a dedicated work package to reinforce the physical and cyber protection of the targeted production capacity, including against drone-enabled threats. It may cover threat assessment, procurement, installation and initial integration of counter-drone site protection and cyber protection of production networks, including EU cybersecurity certification of products used, acceptance testing and connection to national or European security systems.
Expected outcomes
Measurable increases in EU-based production, lower lead times, more resilient and geographically distributed supply, reserved capacity where applicable and a trained workforce, tracked through KPIs defined in the proposal.
