Integrating circularity in LCA-based modelling frameworks for renovation of buildings (Built4People Partnership)
Horizon Europe · Cluster 5 – Climate, Energy and Mobility · HORIZON-CL5-2027-05-D4-07
Funding for life cycle assessment frameworks that integrate circularity, tested on at least three real building renovations.
This call is announced but not open yet. Dates and conditions can still change.
What is this call about?
The call funds projects that build and test life cycle assessment frameworks which account for circularity strategies such as reuse and recycling in building renovation.
What does this call fund?
Scope
This Horizon Innovation Action advances modelling frameworks that integrate circularity assessment with life cycle assessment at building scale, to support net-zero whole-life carbon buildings.
Expected activities
- Develop a comprehensive modelling framework that integrates circularity into life cycle assessment, covering a cradle-to-cradle system boundary.
- Apply the framework to at least three real buildings under renovation in different climatic regions in different Member States or Associated Countries, where developers have adopted ambitious circularity strategies.
- Circularity strategies should include reuse and/or recycling, plus at least one of reduce, repair, refurbish, remanufacture or repurpose.
- Assess embodied and operational emissions of these buildings over their entire life cycle, referencing the life cycle stages in EN 15978.
Expected outcomes
Measurable reductions in material flows, life-cycle energy use and greenhouse gas emissions in renovations that apply circularity strategies, and more robust modelling frameworks that reflect the complexity of circularity in building life cycle assessment. Activities are expected to reach TRL 6-8 by the end of the project.
