Noise reduction breakthroughs for new ultraefficient aircraft
Horizon Europe · Cluster 5 – Climate, Energy and Mobility · HORIZON-CL5-2027-04-TWO-STAGE-D5-09
Funding for research on predicting and reducing engine, airframe and cabin noise of new ultra-efficient passenger aircraft.
This call is announced but not open yet. Dates and conditions can still change.
What is this call about?
The call funds research on methods to predict and reduce the noise of new ultra-efficient passenger aircraft, especially those with open fan and ultra-high bypass ratio engines, including cabin noise.
What does this call fund?
Scope
This Horizon Research and Innovation Action develops advanced, validated numerical and experimental aero-acoustic methods to predict the noise of new ultra-efficient aircraft designs, mainly large passenger aircraft with open fan engines and ultra-high bypass ratio architectures.
Focus
- Stronger fundamental understanding, closing of knowledge gaps and new or updated technologies that enable open fan designs.
- Technology building blocks for significantly reduced cabin noise.
- Existing and new experimental data and procedures, multidisciplinary design and optimisation, aerodynamics, aeroacoustics and noise-reducing metamaterials and structures.
- Optionally, better noise footprint assessment and better understanding and mitigation of annoyance.
Expected outcomes
Progress on airframe and cabin noise for new aircraft designs, engine noise sources and installation effects, and methods for noise perception, annoyance and mitigation. The work should build on lessons and gaps identified in earlier projects.
