PV based electrification of the economy: Designing & optimising PV systems supporting industrial electrification and promoting participation in electricity markets (EUPI-PV Partnership)
Horizon Europe · Cluster 5 – Climate, Energy and Mobility · HORIZON-CL5-2027-07-D3-17
Funding for high-voltage DC solar systems for industry and for solar participation in electricity and balancing markets.
This call is announced but not open yet. Dates and conditions can still change.
What is this call about?
The call funds demonstrations of high-voltage DC solar systems for industrial users and of solar participation in electricity and balancing markets, to support electrification and PV profitability.
What does this call fund?
Scope
This Horizon Innovation Action addresses two challenges for solar power. Proposals are expected to cover at least one of the two scopes.
Scope 1: high-voltage DC PV systems
- Design higher-voltage system architectures and evaluate efficiency gains.
- Develop a blueprint for an AC/DC hybrid solution for managing end-user loads.
- Demonstrate a hybrid system operating above 3 kV in DC grids for industrial installations.
- Investigate the effect of higher voltage on PV modules.
Scope 2: PV participation in electricity markets
- Demonstrate integrated management of PV generators for dynamic and/or nodal pricing.
- Pool PV with other consumption or production assets to take part in balancing mechanisms, and demonstrate business models and financing schemes.
- Demonstrate reliability and better system availability through digitalisation.
Expected outcomes
For Scope 1, highly efficient PV systems, lower levelised cost of electricity and affordable power for industrial users. For Scope 2, higher social profitability of PV through ancillary services and flexible, cost-competitive PV participation in energy markets. Exploitation plans should include a business case and possible funding sources such as the Innovation Fund. Activities are expected to reach TRL 6-8 by the end of the project.
