What is this call about?
The topic funds research that improves analysis and policy options for the resilience of European agriculture, forestry and their supply chains against crises and systemic risks.
What does this call fund?
Scope
Projects analyse how several systemic risks and crises, for example sanitary, environmental, economic, geopolitical, demographic or technological, affect European agriculture or forestry and their supply chains, including compound and cascading effects linked to climate change and trade disruption. Each proposal should address either Area A (agriculture and agri-food supply chains) or Area B (forestry and forest-based supply chains) and state the area in the application.
Activities
- Improve analysis of exposure to risks and of how shocks spread and affect sectors and supply chain actors, including consumers, at scales from local to global and for different social groups.
- Explore socio-economic and technological options and leverage points for prevention, preparedness, management, adaptation and transformation strategies.
- Analyse these options for costs and benefits of action versus non-action, institutional preconditions, and trade-offs with competitiveness, health and sustainability.
Cooperation
Proposals should include a dedicated task and resources to collaborate with other projects under the topic. Area A projects are also expected to collaborate with projects under the topic on the resilience of European farmers. Social sciences and humanities should contribute together with STEM disciplines.
Expected outcomes
Decision-makers at EU, national, regional and local level gain better analytical capacity and policy recommendations, and the roles of climate change and trade in amplifying or mitigating risks are better understood.
