What is this call about?
The call funds one project supporting the SET Plan stakeholder fora in geothermal energy (ETIP and IWG). The project is expected to produce research and innovation roadmaps and analyses that inform EU energy policy.
What does this call fund?
Background
Within the Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan, the European Technology and Innovation Platform (ETIP) and the SET Plan Implementation Working Group (IWG) bring together geothermal stakeholders from industry, research and, where applicable, government representatives of SET Plan countries.
Scope
The project is expected to support the ETIP and IWG in geothermal energy, taking account of the sector's needs, emerging European policy priorities and coordination with other initiatives. The stakeholder fora are expected to develop research and innovation roadmaps and/or analyses, such as strategic research and innovation agendas, industrial strategies, analyses of market opportunities and funding needs, and studies on innovation barriers. Attention should be given, as appropriate, to challenges such as energy security, supply chain security, competitiveness, circularity, advanced materials, digitalisation, skills and just transition.
Expected activities
- Involve industrial players (including SMEs), research and civil society organisations, universities and European associations across several SET Plan countries, with links to national authorities.
- Outreach to widen participation across the EU and associated countries, and dissemination and networking with other projects, are encouraged.
- Where applicable, build synergies with relevant Horizon Europe European Partnerships.
- As appropriate, provide data and analysis tracking technology progress towards EU targets, with data following the FAIR principles.
- Contribute to SET Plan reporting to the European Parliament and the Council.
- Prepare new or updated finance and sustainability plans so the fora can continue without EU funding.
If relevant, the effective contribution of social sciences and humanities (SSH) disciplines and expertise is required.
Expected outcomes
- European climate and energy policies are supported by science-based evidence.
- Implementation of the SET Plan and its contribution to the Green Deal Industrial Plan, the Net Zero Industry Act and the European Research Area is facilitated.
- SET Plan stakeholder fora are recognised as key players in the clean energy transition.
- The interests and concerns of end users and actors along the value chain are taken into account.
