What does this call fund?

Scope

The action, under the MEDIA strand of the Creative Europe Programme, aims to strengthen the capacity of audiovisual producers to develop and produce strong projects able to circulate across Europe and beyond, and to facilitate European and international co-productions in television and online content. It seeks to strengthen the independence of producers from broadcasters and digital platforms and to encourage cooperation between producers, broadcasters, digital platforms and sales agents from different countries, including low capacity countries. This topic covers animation projects.

Eligible works and activities

  • Production of animation works (one-off or series) intended mainly for television or online exploitation, with a total duration of at least 24 minutes.
  • Projects should show strong cooperation between operators from different MEDIA countries, high creative value, wide cross-border potential and innovative aspects in content and financing linked to the distribution strategy.
  • The application must be submitted at the latest on the first day of principal photography (or start of animation for animation projects).
  • Ineligible projects include live recordings, TV games, talk shows, reality shows, educational programmes, promotional works, music videos, projects already financed by Eurimages and productions originally intended for cinema.

Key production conditions

  • At least two broadcasting companies established in two MEDIA countries must be involved, supported by contracts or binding letters of commitment.
  • At least 40% of the total estimated production budget must come from third party sources of finance.
  • At least 50% of the total estimated financing must come from countries participating in the MEDIA strand.
  • Licensed exploitation rights must revert to the producer after at most 7 years (pre-sale) or 10 years (co-production).

Form of funding

The grant is a lump sum set according to the total production budget, ranging from €70,000 (production budget up to €500,000) to €2,000,000 (production budget above €20,000,000).

Expected outcomes

More high-quality European works and co-productions for linear and non-linear broadcasting, stronger cooperation between operators in different countries, larger audiences for European works and more international cooperation, including with Korean professionals.
