Scope
The European Festivals Fund for Emerging Artists (EFFEA), an initiative of the European Festivals Association co-funded by the European Union, supports collaborations between festivals from different countries that host residencies giving emerging artists a platform to develop their work and gain international visibility. The fifth call will select 50 residencies for 50 emerging artists (individuals, groups or collectives), involving around 150 festivals.
Residency categories
- EFFEA Discovery: for artists at an early career stage with strong potential to break through internationally; 40 grants of €8,000.
- EFFEA Springboard: for artists established in their own country and ready to develop internationally; 10 grants of €15,000. Artists who received a Discovery grant in a previous call remain eligible for Springboard.
Disciplines
Architecture, ballet, contemporary dance, circus, design and applied arts, digital arts, film, folklore and folk arts, heritage, interdisciplinary work, literature, music, opera, street art, theatre, photography and video, puppetry, sculpture and painting.
Selection criteria
An EFFEA Jury assesses relevance for artists, festivals and audiences, impact on the artists' careers, longer-term market opportunities for artists, and a budget based on fair remuneration of artists. Diversity, sustainability, digital tools and inclusion are considered in assessing quality.
Implementation
Residencies must start no earlier than 1 January 2027 and end no later than 31 December 2027; costs outside this period are not eligible. Results are announced in December 2026.
