Di cosa tratta questo bando?
The topic funds innovation actions that develop and test feed additives to cut methane and other livestock emissions and improve feed efficiency. Consortia must follow a multi-actor approach across the livestock sector.
Cosa finanzia questo bando?
Scope
The topic funds innovation on feed additives that lower methane and other emissions from livestock and improve feed efficiency without harming animal productivity or welfare. Proposals should cover various terrestrial livestock systems, from conventional to extensive, and should address at least farmed large ruminants.
Activities
- Develop and test a wide range of additives in operational environments (TRL 7), their synergies and delivery strategies, in conventional and organic production, including impacts on animal health, welfare, product quality and net emissions.
- Define endpoints for risk assessment and criteria to demonstrate effectiveness and environmental impact.
- Verify practicality, scalability and socio-economic and environmental impacts across production systems.
- Promote standardised data collection and record keeping in line with the EU and EFSA regulatory framework.
- Identify ways to make new additives affordable and assess consumer perception.
Requirements
Proposals must address and exclude potential risks of feed additives to the environment, animal or human health, in line with the Do No Significant Harm principle, and should interact with organisations such as FAO, LEAP and the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases.
Expected outcomes
Farmers adopt safe, effective and affordable feed additives, advisors gain better access to knowledge, and policy makers and regulators receive evidence-based recommendations. Activities are expected to reach TRL 7.
