Creative Europe · CREA-CROSS-2027-JOURPART-COLLABORATIONS
Cross-border news media partnerships developing new business models, shared standards and skills for a sustainable sector.
Di cosa tratta questo bando?
The topic funds cross-border partnerships of news media organisations that develop new business models, shared standards, collaborative journalism and staff skills. Consortia may include news media outlets and other organisations focusing on news media.
Cosa finanzia questo bando?
Scope
The topic, part of the Creative Europe cross-sectoral strand, aims to make the wider European news media sector, including small media, more sustainable and resilient. It supports cross-border collaborative projects in and between any news media (sub)sector or genre that strengthen cooperation, help media adapt to new economic and consumption realities and bring systemic change to that (sub)sector.
Priorities
Projects must focus on collaborative transformation from a business, technological and/or production point of view. They can work on, among other things:
- better revenue and monetisation models and strategies to share costs
- audience development, community-building and marketing
- common professional and technical standards, new types of newsrooms, syndication networks or other ways to exchange content and data across the EU
- support for small media organisations, innovative production methods and formats, and exchange of best practice among journalists
- reskilling and upskilling of media professionals, in particular in new technologies such as AI systems for journalism
Proposals may address one or more priorities and should include a needs analysis of the chosen (sub)sector.
Eligible activities
Activities can include events, online training and workshops, exchange and mentoring programmes, mapping of best practice, sector-wide technical standards, guidelines and editorial standards, practical guidebooks, platforms and technical solutions, and promotional activities. Sharing practice between markets with different languages, sizes and levels of digitalisation is encouraged. Financial support to third parties is accepted for purposes such as exchanges, training attendance, collaborative journalistic projects, legal advice, technical tools, events and prizes, up to €60,000 per third party unless a higher amount is duly justified.
Requirements for proposals
Projects must include concrete deliverables and measurable indicators for mid-term and end of project, respect widely accepted professional media standards (confirmed by a signed Declaration on Standards and Independence) and, where editorial work is involved, operate with full editorial independence. Partnerships should consider the ecological footprint of their activities.
Expected outcomes
Expected results include more media collaboration, sector-wide networks for exchanging best practice, knowledge hubs around technical formats or journalistic genres, upskilled journalists and media professionals, more innovation in business models and production, and greater viability of professionally produced journalism.
Costs
The grant is budget-based (actual costs with unit cost and flat-rate elements). Indirect costs are covered at a flat rate of 7% of eligible direct costs.
