The call funds frontier research projects led by a principal investigator who is consolidating an independent research team or programme. Applicants of any nationality may apply, provided the research is carried out at a host institution in an EU Member State or associated country.

Scope
Consolidator Grants support excellent principal investigators who are consolidating their own independent research team or programme. The principal investigator should already show evidence of research independence. Proposals in any field of science are eligible, and interdisciplinary proposals are welcome.
Grant size
- Up to €2,000,000 for a period of 60 months; the maximum is reduced pro rata for shorter projects.
- Up to €1,000,000 in additional funding may be requested for further eligible costs in any cost category when needed to carry out the proposed work. The request must be properly justified in the proposal and is not reduced pro rata for shorter projects.
- For principal investigators moving to the EU or an associated country from elsewhere to take up the grant, the additional funding can reach €2,000,000. Applicants asking for more than €1,000,000 in additional funding must be based outside the EU or an associated country at the call deadline.
Time commitment
Funded principal investigators must spend at least 40% of their working time in an EU Member State or associated country and at least 50% of their working time on the ERC project.
Evaluation
Excellence is the only evaluation criterion, covering both the ground-breaking nature and ambition of the project and the intellectual capacity and creativity of the principal investigator. Evaluation by peer review panels takes place in two steps, with interviews at step 2.
Open science
Beneficiaries must provide immediate open access to peer-reviewed publications and manage research data according to the FAIR principles, with a data management plan within the first six months.

Qui peut candidater à cet appel ?
- Applications are submitted by a principal investigator of any age and nationality, residing anywhere in the world at the time of application, except those subject to the restrictions in Annex 3 of the ERC Work Programme 2027.
- The principal investigator must hold a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree at the call deadline, defended between 1 January 2012 and 31 December 2021 (inclusive); the period may be extended beyond 15 years in certain well-documented circumstances.
- Principal investigators who have previously held a Starting Grant or a Consolidator Grant cannot apply for the same type of grant; further restrictions on applications apply.
- The host institution can be any public or private legal entity, such as a university, research organisation or undertaking, established in an EU Member State or associated country, or an international European research organisation or other entity created under EU law.
- The host institution must provide a binding support letter at the time of application.
- Applicants subject to EU exclusion sanctions or in an exclusion situation under the EU Financial Regulation cannot participate.
