Improvement of Adaptability, Flexibility and Efficiency of Existing Recycling Processes (BATT4EU Partnership)
Horizon Europe · Cluster 5 – Climate, Energy and Mobility · HORIZON-CL5-2027-02-D2-05
Funding to make existing battery recycling more flexible and efficient, recovering high-purity materials from mixed lithium-ion feedstocks.
Cet appel est annoncé mais pas encore ouvert. Les dates et les conditions peuvent encore changer.
Quel est l’objet de cet appel ?
The call funds innovation actions that make existing battery recycling processes more flexible and efficient, so that mixed lithium-ion feedstocks and production scrap yield high-purity battery-grade materials.
Que finance cet appel ?
Scope
Innovation actions should make existing battery recycling processes more adaptable, flexible and efficient, in particular for mixed input streams such as production scrap and different lithium-ion chemistries, and should show clear innovation in black mass processing that yields high-purity, battery-grade materials for the European battery value chain.
Proposals are expected to address all of the following
- Develop and demonstrate recycling technologies that can handle feedstocks of variable composition, possibly within the same batch
- Optimise hydrometallurgical and/or pyrometallurgical processes to recover critical raw metals at least at the efficiencies required by the EU Batteries Regulation
- Carry out detailed techno-economic and life-cycle assessments showing gains in energy efficiency, carbon and ecological footprint and economic viability
Where needed, proposals should include digitalised sorting and other advanced pre-treatment technologies. The Safe and Sustainable by Design framework should be used as a reference.
Expected outcomes
Lower cost and higher recovery efficiency of scaled recycling technologies, demonstrated recycling of diverse feedstocks, less EU dependence on imported raw materials, and demonstrable compliance with the EU Batteries Regulation targets.
Other conditions
Exploitation plans should include preliminary plans for scale-up, commercialisation and deployment, naming possible funding sources such as the Innovation Fund. Projects report results to the Batt4EU partnership. Activities are expected to reach TRL 6-7.
