The topic funds a research and innovation project that improves data, indicators and analytical tools on the competitiveness and sustainability of EU agriculture. It requires a multi-actor consortium of farmers, researchers, businesses and other agri-food actors.

Que finance cet appel ?

Scope

The topic funds research that updates knowledge and tools on agricultural competitiveness, so that policies can pursue several objectives at once, including the green and digital transitions, without undermining competitiveness. Work should support the EU Vision for Agriculture and Food, the Competitiveness Compass, the Common Agricultural Policy, the Green Deal sustainability objectives and the SDGs.

Activities

  • Close analytical gaps on the drivers, inputs, components and economic, environmental and social impacts of competitiveness, across value chains, farming systems and regions, one of which should be organic farming.
  • Improve the analysis of agriculture-related policies that support sustainable practices along the value chain and in trade agreements, including their effect on competitiveness, resilience and leakage.
  • Provide evidence on drivers, synergies and trade-offs between sustainability dimensions at different stages of the value chain and at different spatial and time scales.
  • Identify, improve or develop indicators and metrics, and collect data, to measure performance, sustainability, resilience, productivity and competitiveness, with priority for robust indicators that can be replicated in different countries.
  • Provide recommendations and levers to reconcile competitiveness, resilience and sustainability in business strategies and policies.

Expected outcomes

  • Farmers and other supply chain decision makers better understand the determinants of competitiveness and their links with sustainability.
  • Improved data collection, access and analytical tools for better-informed decisions.
  • Policy makers better equipped to develop evidence-based policies.
