Scope

The topic addresses economic systems that fail to account for environmental externalities. Projects support decision-making for a nature positive economy and help businesses build biodiversity into their strategies and reporting.

Activities

  • Advance transparent, standardised biodiversity metrics, more accessible assessment methods and data, and integration of biodiversity-related economic risks into corporate strategy and reporting.
  • Improve knowledge of effective biodiversity incentives, including fiscal reforms and phasing out harmful subsidies.
  • Pilot innovative financial mechanisms and valuation approaches in real business settings, including nature credits, and run demonstration actions.
  • Use biodiversity monitoring data for corporate strategies and sustainability metrics, considering the potential of AI.
  • Make sustainability reporting more accessible and efficient, particularly for start-ups and SMEs.

Expected outcomes

A stronger economic case for biodiversity, businesses better able to mainstream biodiversity in decisions, better knowledge for fiscal and finance policy, and improved measurement and reporting of business impacts and dependencies on nature.

Cooperation

Proposals should build on related EU projects, cooperate with Biodiversa+ and the Knowledge Centre for Biodiversity, and link with voluntary market initiatives such as the Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures.
