Scope

Under the Space Partnership, this topic supports low to mid TRL development of key technologies with a focus on synergies between Earth observation (EO) and satellite communication (SatCom). Research should address:

• End-to-end SatCom mission capabilities for robustness, energy-efficient connectivity and compatibility with 5G and 6G waveforms, such as constellation and network software management, optical communications and digital ground infrastructure
• Building blocks and processes common to EO and SatCom systems that allow in-orbit reconfigurability, faster data availability, smart computing on board and on the ground, and more resilient operations

Expected outcomes

Next-generation EO and SatCom payloads, technologies and processing means, and more secure SatCom and EO services for ground and space commercial applications.

Other conditions

Proposals should promote cooperation between industry, SMEs, research institutions, infrastructures and academia, use existing EU technologies and building blocks, and complement Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe, national and European Space Agency activities. Activities are expected to reach TRL 4-5 (ISO 16290:2013).
