Was fördert diese Ausschreibung?
Scope
Farmland birds and mammals provide pest control, pollination and seed dispersal, but can also damage crops. Projects look for the right balance and for farming systems that support both productivity and biodiversity.
Activities
- Synthesise the effects of farming practices on farmland birds, mammals and agricultural productivity, and the role of specific bird species in pest control and soil health.
- Run participatory research programmes at landscape level to test locally tailored bird-friendly solutions with farmers, land managers and conservationists.
- Improve existing incentives, including under the Common Agricultural Policy, or design new ones for bird- and mammal-friendly practices.
- Design a farmer education programme with advisory services, field days and demonstration farms, and assess peer-to-peer learning.
- Assess how proven biodiversity-friendly practices can be scaled up while at least maintaining productivity.
Expected outcomes
Land managers, farmers, conservation organisations and agribusinesses gain knowledge and tools to improve habitats for farmland birds and mammals, and the adoption of such practices is supported through suitable incentives.
