Scope

The topic supports actions that help the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) Federation and its community turn research results into products, services and solutions, in line with the EU code of practice on intellectual assets management and on standardisation in the European Research Area. A central aim is clearer legal conditions for using and valorising knowledge resources, such as data, publications and software, that are shared in the Federation. It implements the co-programmed European Partnership for the European Open Science Cloud.

Activities

• Analyse the opportunities and barriers in the EU legal framework on intellectual property and relevant licence types for valorising EOSC knowledge resources.
• Gather needs and develop business models and access schemes for innovators and start-ups to use EOSC resources.
• Develop case studies of EOSC stakeholders that valorise results or collaborate with the private sector.
• Map and evaluate licence types that support valorisation, open innovation and industry-academia collaboration.
• Organise workshops, webinars and awareness campaigns, and produce guidance for EOSC users and contributors.
• Develop recommendations and best practices for the further development of the Federation.

Proposals should build on earlier Horizon Europe work, including IP4OS, the EU guiding principles for knowledge valorisation, the Knowledge Valorisation Platform and the codes of practice.

Expected outcomes

• A better overview of intellectual property opportunities and barriers for researchers.
• Organisations contributing to EOSC gain capacity, incentives and legal and technical conditions to valorise resources and work with innovators, start-ups, SMEs and industry.
