Quel est l’objet de cet appel ?

The call funds six-month market feasibility projects in which innovative SMEs assess the viability of their solution in a target country in Africa, the Americas, Asia or Oceania, working with a local subcontractor. It is open to established SMEs from EU Member States, Iceland, Israel, Norway, Switzerland, Türkiye and the United Kingdom.

Que finance cet appel ?

Scope

The call helps innovative SMEs test whether their commercial or research plans for internationalisation are viable in a target country in Africa, the Americas, Asia or Oceania. Each project lasts six months and is carried out with a local organisation in the chosen country. The call is bottom-up, so applicants choose the focus of their project.

What a market feasibility project covers

  • Preliminary technical, market, legal and/or socioeconomic assessments to validate an international, innovative product-, process- or service-market combination
  • Activities to identify the local technical and market conditions that may help or hinder deployment of the innovation
  • One local partner in the target country (for example a supplier, customer, end user, research provider or complementary technology developer) acting as main subcontractor
  • Frugal innovation should be considered where appropriate
  • The innovation must be at least TRL 4 and no higher than TRL 8 in the target country; where further R&I is foreseen, TRL 7 is the indicative upper limit

Expected outcomes

The expected outcome must have a high impact in the target country. After the project, the SME should understand its target market better and be able to make informed business decisions. The project may serve as a preliminary phase for a future international R&I project with local counterparts.

Eligible costs

Personnel, subcontracting, travel and subsistence, equipment depreciation, other goods, works and services, and indirect costs calculated as a 25% flat rate of direct eligible costs excluding subcontracting.

Payment

Each funded project receives a fixed grant of €60,000: 70% (€42,000) as pre-financing at the start and 30% (€18,000) after the six-month project, once the final report is accepted. Since the maximum support rate is 70%, total eligible costs must be at least €86,000, and the SME covers costs above €60,000 itself.

Call budget

The fifth Innowwide call as a whole has a budget of €4,200,000 to fund 70 projects.
