Que finance cet appel ?

Scope

The topic funds research, from a health perspective, that supports independent living and inclusion in society of persons with long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory disabilities across the life course. It covers the transition from institutions to community living, community support services, assistive and accessible technologies and environments.

Research areas

Projects should address at least three of the following:

  • Health research on disabilities stemming from health conditions, including causes and treatment, with solutions such as diagnoses, medicines, protocols, digital tools or low-tech solutions that improve autonomy.
  • Children with disabilities from the perinatal period, young people transitioning to adulthood, and/or older persons.
  • Access to habilitation and rehabilitation services, including psychological rehabilitation and assistive technologies.
  • Prevention of disabilities through the life course, considering risk factors such as inactivity, obesity, loneliness or substance use.
  • Conditions and tools for a successful transition from institutions to living in the community.
  • Community support services for independent living, such as personal assistance, support for decision-making and accessible community-based services that prevent isolation and support deinstitutionalisation.
  • Innovative care models and person-centred social and healthcare services that support independent living, including self-care.

Approach

Persons with disabilities should be involved through their representative organisations, and harmonised data collection using Eurostat standards is encouraged. The topic requires an effective contribution from the social sciences and humanities. Complementarities with related earlier topics on autonomy and on intellectual disabilities are encouraged.

Expected outcomes

  • Persons with disabilities are empowered to live independently and be included in the community on an equal basis.
  • The scientific community develops solutions that remove barriers to independent living.
  • Policymakers, care and service providers and disability organisations are informed of research advances and best practices.
