Quel est l’objet de cet appel ?

The call funds pilots of advanced control room solutions for electricity transmission system operators, improving grid observability, congestion management, renewables integration and interoperability.

Que finance cet appel ?

Scope

This Horizon Innovation Action modernises the design and operation of transmission system operator (TSO) control rooms, combining hardware and software for better observability, more automation, faster decisions and fewer errors.

Expected activities

  • Design and test innovative solutions, technologies and processes for TSO control rooms, including wide area monitoring systems where possible.
  • Help operators manage congestion and integrate more renewables with less curtailment, using real-time analytics and smart-asset data; solutions may cover preparation for, recovery and restoration after incidents, including extreme weather.
  • Update operational tools for distributed generation, possibly with decentralised control.
  • Improve forecasting of supply, demand, flexibility, ancillary service needs and hosting capacity, with advanced analytics and visualisation.
  • Develop interoperability between control rooms of different TSOs and vendors, and with connected entities including adjacent distribution system operators.
  • Use digital twins, artificial intelligence, security by design and, as far as possible, open-source software; produce a manual and best practices for other TSOs.

Expected outcomes

More reliable, resilient and efficient transmission grids, efficient congestion management, better observability and forecasting, and vendor-agnostic reference architectures and tools for control rooms. Activities are expected to reach TRL 6-8 by the end of the project.
