Scope
Neighbourhoods are usually planned with a 5 to 10-year perspective, while socio-economic, cultural, demographic and climatic changes can challenge their resilience over 20 years or more. The topic funds research that develops participatory foresight approaches so that local stakeholders help anticipate and shape the long-term future of existing neighbourhoods.
Required content of the foresight approach
- Analysis of socio-economic, cultural, demographic and climate conditions, long-term trends such as population decline, changing population composition and migration between urban, peri-urban and rural areas, and their drivers.
- Scenarios and visions for possible futures, with objectives, measurable targets and packages of measures, including intergenerational fairness perspectives.
- Co-creation methods that involve diverse local stakeholders, including marginalised, underrepresented and vulnerable groups.
Further activities
- Develop and validate the approach in at least three neighbourhoods in different Member States and/or Associated Countries.
- Provide recommendations for local authorities, decision-makers and the public on applying it.
- Seek synergies with related topics on intergenerational neighbourhoods and on intergenerational fairness.
