Circular innovative advanced materials: facilitating the transition from design to markets (RIA) (Innovative Advanced Materials for the EU and Made in Europe partnerships)
Horizon Europe · Cluster 4 – Digital, Industry and Space · HORIZON-CL4-2027-01-MAT-PROD-06
Funding for circular advanced materials, such as recyclable polymers, composites, magnets and alloys, from design to industrial uptake.
Quel est l’objet de cet appel ?
The topic funds research and innovation on circular advanced materials, from design and recycling to industrial demonstration, for energy and construction value chains. It targets consortia along the materials and manufacturing value chain.
Que finance cet appel ?
Scope
The topic funds research and innovation on advanced materials designed for circularity, in particular recyclable polymers and composites, magnets, and metals and alloys for additive manufacturing, and on speeding up their path to market. It covers the full innovation cycle: design for circularity, development and scale-up including recovery and recycling at end of life, and demonstration of industrial uptake in products.
What proposals should do
- Develop new advanced materials with superior or novel functions, designed for circularity, together with the processes needed for integration in industrial manufacturing.
- Develop circular business models that take account of life-cycle costs.
- Showcase results through demonstrators and industrial use cases, and explore transfer to other sectors.
- Apply the safe and sustainable by design (SSbD) framework, and use digital tools, FAIR data and AI throughout.
- Support strategic value chains in energy or construction; at least one proposal will be funded in each, and proposers declare their main application area.
- Include a business case and exploitation strategy.
Expected outcomes
Faster adoption of circular advanced materials in products, new circular business models, significantly higher resource efficiency, and progress on standards and regulatory requirements to ease market entry.
Technology readiness
Activities are expected to start at TRL 4-5 and reach TRL 6. The topic implements the Innovative Advanced Materials for the EU (IAM4EU) and Made in Europe partnerships.
Further expectations
- Projects should build on or collaborate with existing projects in EU Member States and Associated Countries, in particular the Materials Commons for Europe.
