Quel est l’objet de cet appel ?

The call funds one co-fund action that runs annual joint calls to build renewable fuel and advanced biofuel value chains across European regions under the SET Plan, with support passed on to public and private entities including SMEs.

Que finance cet appel ?

Scope

The action supports the SET Plan Action on Renewable Fuels and Bioenergy (fuels part) by building connected regional renewable fuel value chains across Europe, including regions with lower innovation performance, through sharing capacities and know-how. It complements the Clean Energy Transition (CET) Partnership.

Technologies in scope

  • Advanced liquid and gaseous biofuels from sustainable biomass, autotrophic microorganisms and primary renewable energy
  • Other renewable liquid and gaseous fuels made by transforming carriers such as CO2 or N2 with renewable energy, with particular attention to direct solar and algae-based fuels
  • Solid, liquid and gaseous intermediate bioenergy carriers and their upgrading to advanced biofuels
  • New interregional challenges such as feedstock standardisation, fragmented permitting and business models for rural regions

Hydrogen as an end-product and heat and power production are excluded.

How the action works

The action may fund networking, research and innovation, pilots, market uptake, training, mobility, communication and exploitation along the whole value chain. It should set up a joint plan of activities and organise joint transnational calls every year, using financial support to third parties (FSTP). It should also coordinate and cluster the co-funded projects with other Horizon Europe renewable fuel projects and contribute to the CET Partnership Knowledge Community.

Expected outcomes

Less fragmentation and better aligned public and private research priorities, interregional value chains for renewable fuels, de-risked technologies with better access to finance, and evidence for policy makers to speed up permitting and increase public acceptance.
