Developing effective air quality planning strategies through innovative multi-scale modelling
Horizon Europe · Cluster 6 – Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment · HORIZON-CL6-2027-01-ZEROPOLLUTION-02
Funding for multi-scale air quality models, from regional to street level, that support air quality planning and alerts.
Cet appel est annoncé mais pas encore ouvert. Les dates et les conditions peuvent encore changer.
Quel est l’objet de cet appel ?
The topic funds research projects that build integrated multi-scale air quality models, down to street level, to support air quality plans and pollution alerts for public authorities.
Que finance cet appel ?
Scope
The topic addresses limits in current air quality models, notably grid resolution and the handling of interactions between scales. Projects develop a chain of integrated, easy-to-use models that simulate air quality from regional to street level, including micro-scale, add a time dimension and account for emissions from indoor environments. Results should support Air Quality Roadmaps, Air Quality Plans and the design of monitoring networks under the revised Ambient Air Quality Directive.
Activities
- Build multi-scale modelling chains, possibly with two-way nesting, and improve urban canopy parameterisation, including the role of urban vegetation.
- Analyse current limits in integrating models and scales, and improve existing models and input datasets.
- Develop and validate very high-resolution micro-scale systems to assess measures at pollution hotspots.
- Provide modelling guidelines for decision making at all scales.
- Consider vulnerable groups and links with data on social and spatial inequalities.
Cooperation
Projects should build on earlier H2020, Horizon Europe and LIFE projects, cooperate with the AQUILA and FAIRMODE communities, and collaborate with related projects of the ESA FuturEO programme, with resources for coordination. Data should follow FAIR principles.
Expected outcomes
Public authorities, including EU policy-makers and the European Environment Agency, gain better modelling capabilities and faster scientific evidence; citizens receive more targeted pollution alerts. Activities start from TRL 2 and are expected to reach TRL 5.
