Quel est l’objet de cet appel ?

The call funds an innovation project on preventing, detecting and fighting electric vehicle fires in confined spaces such as car parks, ferries and depots. It requires social sciences expertise and is open to international collaboration.

Que finance cet appel ?

Scope

This Horizon Innovation Action addresses fire risks of electric vehicles in confined spaces such as underground or built-in car parks, garages, ferries and depots, with or without charging and during one-way or two-way charging. The focus is on vehicle categories M1, N1 and heavy-duty vehicles, including L-category vehicles where commercially available with 400 V AC or DC charging connectors.

Expected activities

  • Build a comprehensive European database of fire accidents involving all EV categories.
  • Develop mitigation measures for battery thermal runaway, through design or active measures, to prevent open fire and its spread.
  • Improve on-board diagnosis and real-time monitoring for early warning.
  • Develop affordable fire detection and prevention solutions, and optionally suppression, for confined spaces.
  • Develop firefighting protocols for EV fires in narrow spaces, integrated with existing safety standards.
  • Raise public awareness through a European platform involving the main stakeholders.

Expected outcomes

Standardised fire risk assessment for EVs in confined spaces, affordable detection, suppression and containment measures, standardised fire protocols and evaluation frameworks, and better public perception of EV fire safety. Activities are expected to reach TRL 6 by the end of the project.
