Fostering remembrance of the legacy of colonialism, slavery, and migration, and their impact on contemporary multicultural European societies.
Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) · CERV-2026-CITIZENS-REM-HISTMIGRATION
Grants for projects on remembering colonialism, slavery and migration and their links to structural racism in Europe today.
Quel est l’objet de cet appel ?
The topic funds remembrance, education and awareness projects on the legacy of colonialism, enslavement and migration and how these shape inequality and racism in European societies today. It is open to consortia of at least two organisations led by a non-profit entity or an international organisation.
Que finance cet appel ?
Scope
The topic supports projects that improve understanding of how historical legacies rooted in colonialism, enslavement and imperialism shape present-day inequalities, discrimination and exclusion in Europe. Projects are encouraged to examine links with contemporary forms of structural racism, including anti-Black racism, antigypsyism, antisemitism, anti-Muslim hatred and anti-Asian racism. Migration in 20th-century Europe, including forced displacement, expulsion and the persecution of Roma populations, is also in scope.
Possible project focus
- Acknowledging the legacy of colonialism and its effects on multicultural European societies, in line with the EU Anti-Racism Strategy 2026-2030.
- Anti-racism education, historical literacy and awareness raising for young people, educators and the wider public.
- Collecting, preserving and sharing testimonies, archives and community knowledge on the roots of racism and discrimination.
- Raising awareness of Roma history and culture.
- Examining shared European experiences of migration linked to wars, transitions, colonisation, decolonisation, economic change or persecution.
- Intersectional approaches covering several minority groups, such as people of African descent, Jews, Roma and overseas citizens.
Activities and grant form
Projects are expected to link different types of organisations (civil society, public administrations, academia, museums, memorial sites and educational institutions) and to run activities such as training, exhibitions, public debates, non-formal education, research, collection and digitisation of testimonies, publications and online tools. Activities must involve the direct participation of target groups. The grant is a lump sum: each work package is one "event" and the amount is calculated from the number of direct participants and eligible countries per event. Financial support to third parties is not allowed.
Expected impact
Expected results include better recognition of the experiences of communities affected by racism, stronger knowledge of the history of colonialism and the slave trade, more transnational remembrance coalitions and stronger efforts against historical distortion.
