Mobility partnerships of Sub-Saharan African universities with an EU technical partner, for students, trainees and staff.
Quel est l’objet de cet appel ?
The call funds partnerships of Sub-Saharan African universities, supported by an EU technical partner, that run mobility schemes for Master students, doctoral candidates, trainees and staff across Africa. Projects focus on Global Gateway priority sectors and aim to improve skills, employability and the quality of higher education.
Que finance cet appel ?
Scope
The call supports partnerships of Sub-Saharan African higher education institutions (HEIs), with an EU HEI acting as technical partner, that organise international mobility of Master students, doctoral candidates, trainees and staff between African HEIs. Proposals should align with Global Gateway priorities at country or regional level in climate and energy, digital, transport and health, and should address no more than two such priorities. This is not a call for individual scholarship applications.
Eligible activities
- Governance and coordination, including a consortium agreement and a project management board.
- Institutional capacity development: exchanges between international relations offices, network-building, sharing teaching and research practices, and upgrading and harmonising curricula.
- Organising mobility flows and academic recognition of study periods abroad.
- Cooperation with private and public business actors, notably on traineeships, career services and knowledge transfer.
- Quality assurance, monitoring, dissemination and a sustainability plan.
The EU technical partner is expected to provide advice and active support on academic, administrative and financial management, going beyond taking part in staff mobility.
Mobility rules
Each mobility is hosted in a Sub-Saharan African country other than the scholarship holder's country of nationality and residence. Students and trainees must be nationals of and resident in an African country. Indicative durations are 4 to 24 months for Master students, 6 to 36 months for doctoral candidates, 3 to 6 months for trainees and 2 weeks to 3 months for staff. Recommended targets include at least 25% women among scholarship holders and at least 10% with special needs or vulnerable status.
Expected outcomes
Better recognition of studies and qualifications, stronger capacity of HEIs to manage international partnerships, mobility and career services, more cooperation between HEIs and business, and improved skills and employability of scholarship holders, with greater participation of women.
Eligible costs
The grant is a unit grant with three budget categories: scholarships (€890 per month for Master students, €1,230 per month for doctoral candidates and trainees, €2,370 per month for staff), an institutional contribution of up to €900 per month of implemented mobility, and contributions for special needs.
