Scope
Social challenges such as access to affordable housing, energy poverty and access to quality green spaces affect quality of life and how residents experience the green transition. The know-how of local communities and other non-scientific actors is rarely used to generate or validate solutions. The topic funds research that combines this knowledge with scientific knowledge and formal research methods.
Expected activities
- Develop an innovative transdisciplinary approach that brings new insights on social issues hindering a fair green transition of neighbourhoods, including their nature-positive transformation.
- Define the social issues studied and, where relevant, their links to social phenomena and local specificities.
- Combine local and non-scientific knowledge with scientific knowledge or research methods that are not usually combined.
- Test or validate the approach in at least three neighbourhoods in urban, peri-urban and rural areas of different Member States and/or Associated Countries.
- Propose guidelines for using the insights in decision-making, policymaking, design, planning and public service design.
Expected outcomes
Better understanding of social issues affecting the green transition, robust evidence for policy and planning, and transfer of skills between scientific and non-scientific actors.
