Quel est l’objet de cet appel ?

The topic funds remembrance, research and education projects on Europe's transitions from authoritarian and totalitarian regimes to democracy. It is open to consortia of at least two organisations, led by a non-profit legal entity or an international organisation.

Que finance cet appel ?

Scope

This topic of the European Remembrance call under the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme supports projects that remember the transition of European countries from authoritarian and totalitarian regimes, including communist and fascist dictatorships, to democracy, and draw lessons from it for defending democracy, the rule of law and fundamental rights today.

Possible project focus

  • How democracies developed after past transitions, including shared patterns and national specificities, and how the legacy of the authoritarian or totalitarian past is remembered today.
  • Research on and visibility of acts of resistance and organised opposition to past regimes.
  • Remembrance and education about periods when freedoms such as expression, assembly, conscience, religion and electoral rights were suppressed.
  • Historical justice, through trials, restitution or amnesty, and present-day restorative justice.
  • Countering foreign interference and the falsification of historical facts, and strengthening citizen engagement, critical thinking and media literacy.

Activities

Projects are expected to link different types of organisations (non-profit and grassroots bodies, public administrations, academia, museums, memorial sites and educational institutions) and to run activities such as training, exhibitions, public debates, non-formal education, awareness raising, research, collection and digitisation of testimonies, publications and online tools. Activities must involve the direct participation of target groups. Projects should have a European dimension; they can be national or transnational, and transnational projects are particularly encouraged. Projects must seek to promote gender equality and non-discrimination mainstreaming.

Expected impact

Stronger engagement of citizens and multipliers (teachers, journalists, officials, policymakers) in supporting democratic institutions, a shared European culture of remembrance, better access to archives and testimonies, and a stronger response to historical distortion and revisionism.

Form of funding

The grant is a lump sum: each work package corresponds to one event with direct, verifiable participation of the target group, and the amount is based on the number of participants and eligible countries per event.
