Que finance cet appel ?
Scope
Active railway lines and motorways can bring pollution, noise, invasive plant species and hazards to the neighbourhoods they cross, leaving them neglected and less attractive. The topic supports innovative solutions that reduce these effects and turn such places into more liveable, inclusive, safe, attractive and biodiverse areas.
What proposals should do
- Develop and demonstrate a package of measures that mitigates the negative effects of active railway lines and motorways and revitalises nearby neighbourhoods.
- Implement the package in three neighbourhoods (one urban, one peri-urban and one rural) in different Member States and/or Associated Countries.
- Measure the resulting environmental, ecological, economic, social and health changes at the demonstrator sites.
- Identify barriers, including regulatory ones, and propose ways to overcome them.
- Ensure scalability and replicability through guidance and documented best practice for municipalities and other stakeholders.
Approach
Solutions should be co-created with public authorities, architects, urban and landscape planners and inhabitants. An effective contribution from social sciences and humanities is required, and synergies with initiatives such as the Europe's Rail Joint Undertaking should be explored. Proposals are expected to set aside at least 0.8% of their budget for engaging with the Horizon Europe-funded New European Bauhaus hub for results and impact.
Expected outcomes
- Reduced negative effects of railway lines and motorways at the demonstrator sites.
- Better adoption of solutions by local authorities, inhabitants and planning professionals.
- Activities are expected to reach technology readiness level 6-8 by the end of the project.
