Quel est l’objet de cet appel ?

The topic funds projects that keep the memory of the Shoah alive, counter Holocaust denial and distortion, and raise awareness of Jewish life and history in Europe. It is open to consortia of at least two organisations led by a non-profit entity or an international organisation.

Que finance cet appel ?

Scope

The topic supports remembrance, research and education on the Holocaust against Jewish people, as fewer survivors remain to share their testimony. It aims to counter the politicisation, minimisation and distortion of the Shoah, including its conflation with conflicts in the Middle East. Suggested target groups include teachers, policymakers, history students, local authorities, newcomers and migrants, and journalists. Projects may develop networks of young European ambassadors for Shoah remembrance and support the educational role of Holocaust memorial sites, including cooperation with the network of European Sites of Holocaust Memory (ESHEM).

Possible project focus

  • How the Shoah was carried out, who was involved, and pre-war and immediate post-war developments.
  • Countering Holocaust denial, distortion, trivialisation, false comparisons and antisemitic conspiracy theories, including online.
  • Addressing divergent national and regional narratives of the Shoah.
  • Memory activism and grassroots commemoration, including International Holocaust Remembrance Day and national remembrance days.
  • Digitising historical material and witness testimonies for education and training.
  • Jewish life, history and culture before and after the Shoah; provenance research on looted art; countering the glorification of Nazism.

Activities and grant form

Projects are expected to link different types of organisations (civil society, public administrations, academia, museums, memorial sites and educational institutions) and to run activities such as training, exhibitions, public debates, non-formal education, research, collection and digitisation of testimonies, publications and online tools. Activities must involve the direct participation of target groups. The grant is a lump sum: each work package is one "event" and the amount is calculated from the number of direct participants and eligible countries per event. Financial support to third parties is not allowed.

Expected impact

Expected results include stronger action against Holocaust denial and distortion, better knowledge of the history of antisemitism and Jewish life in Europe, digitised archival material and testimonies, and more transnational remembrance coalitions.
