Scope

The topic funds one coordination and support action that builds on and consolidates the results of earlier research and innovation projects and initiatives for the cultural and creative industries (CCIs), such as technologies, methods, networks and platforms, to create a long-term, economically sustainable innovation ecosystem. The project should improve existing innovation ecosystems so that they work for CCIs.

What the project should do

• Overcome barriers to CCI-driven innovation, such as the dominance of small and micro enterprises that do not fit support models built for fast-growth start-ups, difficulties in valuing intellectual property, and gaps between cultural and innovation policies.
• Go beyond common innovation support practice, for example with portfolio approaches that make clusters of organisations investable.
• Take local contexts into account while establishing common principles and active knowledge exchange across Europe.
• Develop Key Performance Indicators and assessment frameworks, including a baseline.
• Build on existing networks and platforms and involve key stakeholders from most EU Member States and Associated Countries and a wide range of CCIs.
• Outline a sustainable and adaptable economic model for the ecosystem.

Support to third parties

To engage organisations outside the consortium, such as innovation support actors or CCIs, the project may give financial support to third parties, only in the form of grants.

Expected outcomes

More and higher-impact CCI-driven innovations in Europe, continued support beyond project funding through a sustainable ecosystem, and recognition of CCIs as an engine of sustainable innovation at European, national, regional and local level.
