Scope
The topic funds projects that increase, restore and maintain urban green space and tree canopy cover, including along urban transport networks such as streets, car parks, public transport systems and waterways, and in the built environment.
Aspects to cover (at least three in each pilot site)
- Approaches and tools to understand how green space and tree cover affect heat, biodiversity, water scarcity, stormwater, landslides and air quality.
- Identification of barriers, including governance, conflicts with underground infrastructure, root growth, water scarcity and shortage of native seedlings, and solutions to overcome them.
- Measures to increase green space and tree cover, prioritising native species and connectivity.
- Multifunctional solutions with co-benefits such as stormwater management, recreation, shelter from extreme weather, fairer access to nature and noise reduction.
Required in all projects

- Involvement of local communities, including disadvantaged groups, and public and private land and property owners.
- Monitoring of environmental, economic, social and health impacts, and plans for sustainability after the project.
