The topic funds actions that give researchers across the European Research Area transnational and virtual access to advanced research infrastructure services, with exchanges, outreach and support for early-stage researchers.

Scope

The topic funds actions that bring a wider community of users into the European research infrastructure ecosystem and strengthen that ecosystem across the whole European Research Area. Projects provide transnational access (on site or remote) and/or virtual access to services of a set of similar or complementary advanced national or pan-European research infrastructures, for curiosity-driven, excellent and interdisciplinary research. Proposals should adhere to the European Charter for Access to Research Infrastructures.

Aspects proposals should address

• A broad portfolio of infrastructure services relevant to frontier research in the chosen scientific area, including data services and infrastructures financed under EU Cohesion Policy, with all access aimed at integrating a wider community.
• Two-way exchanges and networking among researchers and research groups across the European Research Area, favouring direct over online interaction, that can lead to longer-term collaboration.
• Proactive outreach to raise awareness of infrastructure services among researchers in targeted countries.
• Activities aimed specifically at early-stage researchers.

Third-party access

Financial support to third parties may extend the portfolio with access providers that are not beneficiaries. The support goes to the third-party infrastructure that provides access and covers its access costs, service customisation and users' travel and subsistence; travel and subsistence may instead be managed centrally. Calls for user projects and for third-party providers may be combined into a one-stage selection.

Expected outcomes

• Better connected research infrastructures across the European Research Area, spreading excellence and the circulation of knowledge.
• Wider, simpler and more efficient access to the best infrastructures, and a wider user community better able to address research challenges and EU priorities.
• A new generation of trained researchers and better FAIR management of infrastructure data.
