The call funds demonstrations of on-site robotic and automated construction techniques, including 3D printing, for the energy renovation of existing buildings and for new construction.

Scope

This Horizon Innovation Action supports on-site robotic and automated techniques that make renovation and construction faster, more accurate, less disruptive, more cost-effective and more resource-efficient, while delivering at least the same energy performance of building elements as current best practice.

Expected activities

• Demonstrate innovative on-site robotic and automated techniques for renovation and new construction, with at least one technique involving 3D printing.
• Develop techniques specifically for building sites; solutions focused on off-site prefabrication in workshops or factories are out of scope.
• Make techniques adaptable to various building types and, where possible, to materials and components already on the market.
• Take account of on-site worker safety and human-robot collaboration.
• Run at least three demonstrations covering different building types and climatic conditions representative of the European building stock.

Expected outcomes

Better resource efficiency and accuracy (designed versus as-built), much less time spent by professionals on site, and lower greenhouse gas emissions at construction sites. Activities are expected to reach TRL 6-8 by the end of the project.
