The pilot call funds Phortify-labelled photonics internships at partner universities and companies, through monthly allowances or lump sums. It is open both to students enrolled in Phortify Master's programmes and to other students taking part in Phortify internships.

Scope
Phortify is a European photonics education network whose funding framework aims to widen participation in photonics, particularly among groups underrepresented in STEM. This pilot call supports short-term, practice-oriented internships that are Phortify-labelled and aligned with the project's objectives. Internships are learning activities and do not constitute employment. Participating partners are AFS, ICFO - The Institute of Photonic Sciences, Eindhoven University of Technology, Warsaw University of Technology and Friedrich Schiller University.
Funding amounts by partner
- AFS: €1,200 per month for Master's students and €800 per month for Bachelor's students
- ICFO: €600 per month for a maximum of six months
- Eindhoven University of Technology: €2,000 lump sum
- Warsaw University of Technology: €2,000 lump sum
- Friedrich Schiller University: €1,500 lump sum
Eligible costs
Monthly allowances are paid for the actual internship duration, subject to partner conditions; lump sums contribute to overall internship costs such as travel, accommodation and subsistence. No other activities are eligible.
Selection
Applications pass a pass/fail eligibility check and are then ranked on academic excellence, motivation and alignment with Phortify objectives, and overall applicant profile (each scored 0 to 5, maximum 15 points). Funding follows a rolling procedure with evaluation rounds typically every two to three months; where scores are tied, tie-break rules favour underrepresented groups, including women and students from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds.

Applications are submitted via the Phortify website, with transcripts, a Phortify-specific motivation letter and a CV.

- Category A: students enrolled in a Phortify Master's programme at a consortium university who undertake a Phortify-related internship during their studies
- Category B: students not enrolled in a Phortify Master's programme who take part in a Phortify-labelled internship under the responsibility of a Phortify partner institution
- Applicants must be students at the time of the internship
- Nationals of an EU Member State, an associated country, or a country with which the EU has an ongoing cooperation agreement under the Digital Europe Programme (for example through Digital Partnerships, Trade and Technology Councils or digital dialogues); the authoritative country list is published with the call
