Scope

Start-ups, scale-ups and innovative SMEs need access to advanced facilities, equipment and expertise to test, scale up and validate new products, but access procedures are often complex and costs can exceed their means. The action will develop and test pilot multi-site access schemes involving a critical mass of technology infrastructure operators and users in priority areas such as advanced materials, clean energy or health and biotechnology.

Activities

• Build on existing initiatives that already offer single access points to a range of facilities, such as Open Innovation Test Beds.
• Set up a pilot, centrally managed and funded access programme with simplified, standardised access conditions across the EU, in line with the envisaged European Charter of access for industrial users.
• Broaden the user base, especially start-ups and scale-ups without such facilities in their local ecosystems, through visibility and promotion activities.
• Strengthen transnational, multi-site collaboration among technology infrastructures, including sharing of resources, best practices and staff exchange.

Expected outcomes

• Better understanding of industrial users' needs for technology infrastructure services.
• More opportunities for companies to develop, test, scale up and deploy new technologies.
• Stronger innovation capacity of European SMEs, start-ups and scale-ups.
• Attractive and effective access schemes, including transnational access.
